Before surrending an animal, we urge you to carefully think about finding alternate ways to make it work so that your pet can stay with you. Many times we receive desperate calls from people telling us they have to find a new home for their pet within 24 hours; you are doing both yourselves and your pet a disservice by waiting until the last minute to make arrangements for a new home. The time to call us or any other rescue is at the beginning when you first notice the issue that has affected your pet's behavior or created your situation. If there is a problem behavior which is causing you to consider giving up your pet, have all angles and possible causes been probed and eliminated, including a visit to the vet to rule out any medical cause for the behavior? Did you know that even something so simple as switching to a larger, uncovered litterbox or using a different brand of litter will often eliminate the problem of a cat urinating/defacating outside of a litterbox?
